The Tern Valley Tinkers are a Ceilidh Band based in Shropshire with a caller available for private functions and fundraising events. We are a young energetic band with talented musicians playing a large selection of English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish Jig/Reels and hornpipes which are great for dancing. The musicians in the band play the Violin, Piano Accordion, Melodeon, Anglo Concertina, Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Flute, Oboe, Bass Guitar, Drums and Percussion. We can vary the line-up depending upon the nature of the event and availability of the band members.
James and Gareth play regularly as a two piece band with violin and melodeon/piano accordion and as a four piece band with the above plus flute/guitar/oboe, or a six piece (full band). We also have an excellent vocalist and our own caller. The players in the band are based in Market Drayton, North Shropshire.
The band have recorded a selection of our music, which you can listen to on the samples page.
The band perform predominately in the local area, but have played as far afield as Derbyshire, Staffordshire and the West Midlands, the Welsh Borders and in Bristol and Somerset. We enjoy travelling and welcome enquiries from outside Shropshire.
The main function of the Tern Valley Tinkers is to play traditional music for the purpose of dancing by which we mean Ceilidhs or Barn Dances. We have our own experienced caller, Mr. Arthur Barnett, who leads a local U3A Country Dance class and we are also in the process of training members of the band to call dances and to keep the tradition going in North Shropshire.
The Tern Valley Tinkers have public liability insurance (up to 5 million pounds) through affiliation of the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS). All equipment used is PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) tested and we can provide a certificate if required.
